"Atlantic history," as a new field of historical
research between "European history" and "global
history," was the subject of an international conference
with some 50 participants held in Hamburg in 1999. It was the
first attempt after three previous meetings organized by a "Network
on the History of European Expansion," supported by the European
Science Foundation (Strasburg), to bring together specialists
on the history of Africa, Anglo-America, Latin America and the
European expansion, who focus their research on the Atlantic.
The present volume, containing the elaborated arguments then presented
and discussed, intends to introduce the history of the development
of this new field of historical research, define its object, and
explore its potential of realization and methodological particularities.
At the same time it offers a broad outline of fundamental historical
knowledge assembled by recent empirical research.
The volume may be of interest not only for historians in the different
areas of study but also for social scientists, geographers and
economists with historical outlooks as well as for readers generally
interested in the historical dimension of "globalization."
history of European Expansion" der European Science Foundation
(Strasburg), das Spezialisten der Geschichte Afrikas, Angloamerikas,
Lateinamerikas und der Geschichte der europäischen Expansion
zusammenführte, die ihre Forschungen auf den atlantischen
Raum ausrichten.
Interessierte.
